Job Title: Youth/Young Adult Coordinator (up to 10 hours per week)

About us: California Hands & Voices’ CPRC, CARES is dedicated to empowering families with children and young adults with disabilities in a respectful and non-judgmental manner. Position Overview: The Youth/Young Adult Coordinator recruits, educates, empowers, and serves individuals with disabilities regarding disability-related issues, resources, advocacy, peer support, and transitioning into adulthood. Primarily virtual (approx 80%) but in person and some travel is required.
Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Making sure that youth/young adults are safe while participating in activities.
- Work collaboratively with the staff and stakeholders virtually, in person and via email.
- Develop and deliver training presentations and materials for teens, young adults, and families.
- Provide individualized support to empower youth and families in advocacy for transition services.
- Participate in outreach activities, sharing information and resources.
- Build and maintain relationships with schools and community organizations.
- Develop a network of youth including a focus group to identify needs in the community.
- Collaborating with juvenile justice and other stakeholders to provide training to youth and parents
- Coordinating fundraising events to help cover the costs of youth/young adult program
- Organize and facilitate activities such as field trips, parties, dances, picnics, or similar events.
- Represent CARES CPRC in various planning and decision-making groups, boards, committees.
- Collect and report data on training activities in our database and at our team meetings.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old to apply.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience in empowering youth/young adults with disabilities, and their families preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and partnership-building skills.
- Knowledge of self-advocacy, person-centered planning, and relevant laws preferred.
- Proficiency with Google, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media, databases, and websites.
- Ability to work and travel by vehicle during the day, evenings and weekends as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to transport materials, work at a computer for extended periods, and travel by vehicle.
