5 Part Parent Series (night 4)

You are invited to attend a Virtual 5 Part Parent Series hosted by California Hands & Voices and sponsored by RIT/NTID. Each of the sessions are described below, you are welcome to attend one or all of the sessions. ASL & Spanish interpreters have been scheduled and youth are encouraged to attend.

Dates: January 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st and February 7th

Session 1 each of the speakers participating in the 5-part parent series will share their personal journey. The presenters will provide an overview of what will be discussed in all five webinars as well as give an overview of secondary transition information.

Session 2 will provide strategies for preparing children early, including activities that lead to strong transition skills as children prepare for life after high school. There will be a brief description of parent and student rights related to IDEA (public school law) and the ADA (civil rights law).

Session 3 will address strategies for college preparation, college search and selection, use of disability services and a college student’s perspective on college life and its challenges and successes.

Session 4 CA Hands & Voices ASTra advocates who will speak about transition resources, student strategies for success and tips for preparation for graduation.

Session 5 will be led by a presenter from California Vocational Rehabilitation (VR). He will describe VR services, eligibility and expectations. The goal of VR and what students and parents should expect will also be shared.
